Our Beloved "Spike"
Our family and the doctors and staff of Canton Animal Hospital LLC regret to announce the passing of our beloved Spike, aged 14 years, 5 months, on Thursday, September 23, 2004. Fully named Even Keels Seaman Spike CD, he was the son of the late Even Keels Boatswains Mate and Even Keels Tammy, both of Norwich.
A large Boston terrier, Spike was trained for obedience trials as a young adult, earning numerous awards and honors including the Canine Good Citizen award, and the coveted AKC Companion Dog title.
As an adult, Spike appeared regularly on the former Nutmeg TV variety show Pet Health Update with host Dr. Arnie Goldman of Canton, and served as a pet therapy dog in numerous nursing and assisted living facilities in the Farmington valley area.
In his later years, despite the limitations of his health, Spike continued to serve in his role as greeter at Canton Animal Hospital LLC, along with his daughter Claire and coworkers Corky and Belle.
Spike was predeceased by his original breeder, trainer and owner, the late Claire Papszycki, originally of Even Keels Farm, Norwich and her parents the late Cleo & Elsie Gardner of Salem. Spike is survived by two brothers and two sisters, five children and numerous grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be private. Donations in Spikes name can be made to the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Foundation,
100 Roscommon Drive, Suite 100, Middletown, CT 06035.
