DEPARTMENTS

DENTISTRY
The level of dental care available to pets today rivals that available for human dental patients. Both diagnostic and therapeutic techniques mirror those found in modern human dentistry today. While some conditions may require specialized techniques and training, modern veterinary dental care is mainly accomplished through the use of complete and thorough dental examination, detailed dental charting, dental radiography (x-ray imaging) and preventative care. As the standard-of-care in veterinary dentistry today requires dental x-ray image evaluation as a basic tool of diagnosis, Canton Animal Hospital is proud to serve our clients with  state-of-the-art dental radiography equipment.

Pet dentistry is an under appreciated, but extremely important part of pet health care. Untreated dental disease (gingivitis, periodontitis, cavities, pain) is the most neglected area of pet health care, and exists in 85% of all dogs and cats. So-called “doggy breath” or “kitty breath” is frequently the only sign noticed by pet owners until the signs of severe dental disease are pointed out by a veterinarian. Dental pain in people can be excruciating and is no different in animals that cannot tell us that they hurt. Further, the consequences of untreated dental disease are infection and dysfunction of the kidney and heart, as well as other areas of the body.
